The true American Dream.
From the younger generation to the older generation on many ways you have taught us the American dream and in particularly one of the major aspect’s of it, relationship. My hopes and thoughts are going to be laid on the facts that relationships are the best way to find the American dream; So that we can better understand my point of view I will further explain my argument. Most people want money, power, and freedom, but face the facts jack; Most of America does not have any of these or our government is taking them slowly away right out from underneath our nose.
All I heard growing up and what I also hear today was and is “I wish I could have -------” fill in the blank, but all any one needs is family or good friends. It’s proven that people need people. I guess where I’m going with this is money and power do not bring you happiness, sure you will have nice things and people to boss around but trust me the people you do boss around do not like you because you make more money, or you are mean because you have to do your job per say, you caught them slacken off and did the right thing and told them off. If you want better examples just look some of our celebrities, Brittney Spears, Ray Charles, Pairs Hilton, and Jessica Simpson, all rich but not happy. I think that to be truly happy you need a good up rising. We all need to be taught at an early age what the older generation has taught me; love, respect, and to spread what I’ve learned on to younger generations.
I think it’s funny that we as Americans think that we are free. Sad thing is we are not free. Over the last decade or so we have been slowly giving away our rights and our freedoms to our government without even fighting for them. Well there is one thing we did fight for and that was our precious liquor, during prohibition. Look at all the other things we did not fight for like the illegalization of marijuana, seatbelt law, patriot act, smoking ban. There are plenty and we let it slide because we think its best for us as a nation, to let our government protect us from ourselves. Have you ever heard of the Patriot Act? If not let me inform you. This act according to the text book criminal justice today basically says that if the government has a warrant they can now access your computer and your voice mail. Before they needed a warrant and a wire tap order. This means if suspected as a terrorist the government will access all the above as well as slap you with some irons and throw you in prison until the trial. There is another law that is about to pass that we are not fighting for right now that will take away some more of our freedoms. That new law says to watch TV you need the new card that lets us all go digital. What about the people that don’t want to go digital I still know people that still have the rabbit ears and old dial knob TV’s. They could give a hoot about cable or dish. Wait till they have no TV any more and they will start griping, but that’s going to be too late.
I don’t want everyone to think that money, freedom, and power are bad we need them. Hell without them there would be no America, but I don’t believe that these are the major aspects of the American dream. A thought that just crossed my mind with the giving away our freedoms as freely as we do is. Most people in America don’t want the power. Don’t get me wrong I know I don’t want to have to make any major decisions like the one that President Bush made shortly after September, 11, 2001. Bush will never live that decision down. Growing up around money, I always had every thing I ever wanted but a good relationship with who was providing all the money for me, my mother. Me and my mother never got along we still don’t she does not see all the things she gives me can’t buy love. If you work all the time to make the money how do you even know each other. In my opinion money more or less tears people apart you see it all the time just look at people who come in to big money like people who win the lottery. I don’t know much about power but I do know to have power you have to devote a life time of work and its ok if you can devote the same amount of time to be with you family but if you cant is it worth it?
I guess its time to stop dancing around the subject and get right down to it, relationship. Like I said before growing up me and my mother never got along but me and my father did. Even to this day my dad and I are the two happiest people you will meat when are together. He has taught me all the things needed to reach the American dream will power and a good relationship and I use my dad and me as prime examples. We are by far not rich living from pay check to pay check. In society we are not powerful, hell welfare and a part time job at a not well known art museum hardly puts us any were in politics. We know that were not free but we conform to the rest of society in just bitchin about it. All we need and all we ever wanted is the willpower to keep looking ahead and each other to keep us happy and I know we as true Americans will be just fine living the true American dream. I hope by writing this paper and explaining all these thing helps many people in there quest for the true American dream and also help us as a nation to protect all of the freedoms that we still keep today as well as fight to gain back some of the ones that we over the years have lost.
